A maple kitchen hutch was handed down to me. I remember this piece of furniture as a kid. It always had beautiful dishes and glasses inside. Occasionally, it had hidden candy and treats. This piece of furniture was special to me. It held wonderful things inside and the owner was my loved grandmother. Now my mother decided it was my turn to have the Hutch. I was so excited. For I remember it to be beautiful as old furniture often is. When I received it I saw it needed a little work. I really wanted it in my kitchen as I needed more counter space and storage but it would blend beautifully with my kitchen. I was so afraid though after I cleaned it up that it would not hold up. So a plan was made to make a soapstone top the same color as soapstone used for kitchen counter-tops and sink. Not enough, I thought. Lets go up the back of the stone top with a back splash of soapstone and and little 7″ spice shelf of stone. This is in the process of being made. I have to say it is beautiful so far. Can’t wait till it is finished. I will post a picture and keep you informed. A great way to liven up furniture pieces and protect them as well. I think my Grandmother would have liked this.
