As a stone sculptor, stone fabricator, and experienced tile setter, Greg Bergmann observed a growing interest in Soapstone in California. Greg began importing soapstone slabs for use by craftsmen wanting to install stone counters themselves. As the interest and demand grew, Greg realized there was a need for a supply of high quality soapstone and it’s installation. In 2004 Greg and his wife Wendy created Soapstone West. A few months later that year they assembled a team with Greg as the licensed general and specialty contractor for the company.
In 2008 Greg and Wendy made the decision to rebrand as Soapstone Werks, furthering their passion for the soapstone medium. Their vision was clear: provide excellent high quality soapstone, professional installation, offering custom sink and other specialty projects built with an artistic approach that can be incorporated into the practical applications of soapstone.

As a designer, I can’t believe I waited this long to use this material. Well, better late than never…this will be my first choice recommendation of all my projects. The product is so versatile in terms of aesthetic, it doesn’t matter whether it is a contemporary kitchen or the most traditional. I love it!
The office staff were wonderful and the installation went perfect. My favorite thing about soapstone is that I love the organic look and feel with the added bonus of it being bullet proof. So far, I haven’t had any problems with soapstone and the maintenance is not as bad as I thought. I use the mineral oil when it looks a little dry and that’s it! I would absolutely recommend soapstone to my friends, and i have recommended Soapstone Werks to my friends already!
