Soapstone Throughout History

Soapstone has been a very useful stone throughout history.
Soapstone was used for stamps by the Babylonians and the Egyptians. China used Soapstone along with Jade in their jewelry. The vikings used soapstone pots even! Finland and Brazil have some of the oldest soapstone statues to date. Many cultures have used soapstone. Some people used soapstone as molds for their bronze statues. The Inuit culture is especially rich with soapstone statues. You can still find and buy Inuit soapstone statues to this day. In some areas people used soapstone blocks to warm their beds at night. They used soapstone blocks even until the 1950s. Soapstone is truly an amazing stone!
